In The Beginning

All Ancestors: In the beginning, there was only ocean…

Chief Ancestor 1: Until the goddess Te Fiti used her heart to create islands, teeming with life.

Chief Ancestor 2: Voyagers began to sail.

Chief Ancestor 3: The world was theirs to discover.

All Ancestors: Tatou o tagata folau vala'auina e le atua o le sami telee omai. La ava'e le lu'itau e lelei. Tapenapena!

Tah-toh oh tah-ngah-tah foh-lah-oo vah-lah-ah-oo-ee-nah eh leh ah-too-ah oh leh sah-me teh-leh eh oh mah-ee oo-ah ah-vah-eh leh loo-ee-tah-oo eh leh-leh-ee tah-peh-nah-peh-nah

Chief Ancestor 2: But a greedy few sought Te Fiti's heart, wanting to possess the power of creation for themselves.

Chief Ancestor 1: The most daring of them all, Maui, a shapeshifter, a demigod of the wind and sea, set out for the Heart.

Chief Ancestor 3: Using his magical fish hook, Maui transformed into a hawk, outsmarting his competition and stealing the Heart from Te Fiti.

Chief Ancestor 1: Maui did not have the Heart for long before he was attacked by Te Ka!

Chief Ancestor Ensemble: (intense, ominous) Te Ka!

Chief Ancestor 1: A demon of Earth and fire.

Chief Ancestor 2: Te Ka and Maui fought for the Heart.

Chief Ancestor 3: During their battle, The Heart of Te Fiti was lost to the sea.

Chief Ancestor 2: Furious, Te Ka a hunted for the lost heart, destroying everything in its path draining life from island after island.

Chief Ancestor 1: Maui disappeared, never to be seen again.

Chief Ancestor 3: Fearing Te Ka's wrath, the villagers stopped voyaging….

Chief Ancestor 1: and chose the safety of their island home, Motunui.

Chief Ancestor 2: Maui and Te Ka became the stuff of legends…

Chief Ancestor 3: and the adventures of the voyagers were forgotten.

Ancestor ensemble: But the ocean did not forget.

Chief Ancestor 1: For more than a 1000 years, the ocean guarded the heart of Te Fiti. Chief Ancestor 3: Searching for someone who could find Maui…

Chief Ancestor 1: ...Defeat Te Ka…

Chief Ancestor 2: Restore the heart of Te Fiti...

Chief Ancestors: ...and save mankind.

Tulou Tagaloa

Ocean Ensemble: Sei e va'ai mai I le tatou lalolagi.

Sei e va'ai mai I le matou lalolagi.

Sei e malamalama e lelei ma le manaia. Sei e va'ai Maia manaio le tatou olaga.

Seh-ee eh vah-eye mah-ee ee leh tah-toh lah-loh-lah ngee ee leh mah-toh lah-loah-lah-ngee seh-ee eh mah-lah-mah-lah-mah eh leh-lay mah leh mah-nigh-ah seh-ee eh vah-ah-ee mah-ee-ah mah-nigh-ah oh leh tah-toh oh-lah-ngah

Where You Are Part 1

Chief Tui: Moana! Make way! Make way! Moana, it's time you knew the village of Motunui is all you need.

Sina: The dancers are practicing! They dance to an ancient song.

Dancers: Who needs a new song? This old one's all we need.

Chief Tui: This tradition is our mission, and Moana, there is so much to do! Don't trip on the taro root, that's all you need.

Villagers: Make way! That's all you need. We make!

Sina: We share everything we make. We joke and we weave our baskets. The fisherman come back from the sea.

Weavers: Ha ha!

Moana: I wanna see...

Chief Tui: Don't walk away. Moana, stay on the ground now. Our people will need a chief and there you are.

Chief Tui and Sina: There comes a day when you're gonna look around and realize happiness is where you are.

Where You Are Part 2

Chief Tui: Consider the coconut! Consider its tree.

Villagers: The what?!

All: We use each part of the coconut; it's all we need….

Sina: We make our nets from the fibers.

Hei Hei: The water is sweet inside!

Pua: We use the leaves to build fires

Sina, Hei Hei, Pua: And cook up the meat inside.

Chief Tui: Consider the Coconuts!

Pua, Hei Hei, villagers: Consider the Coconuts!

Sina, Chief Tui: The trunk and the leaves!

All: The island gives us what we need!

Moana: and no one leaves....?

Chief Tui: That's right, we stay.

Sina, Chief Tui: We're safe and we're well provided. And when we look the future.

All: There you are.

Sina: You'll be okay.

Chief Tui: In time you'll learn, just as I did,

Sina, Chief Tui: you must find happiness right

All: Where you are.

Moana: Ev'ry turn I take, ev'ry trail I track, ev'ry path I make, ev'ry road leads back to the sea. I'm standing at the edge of the sea.

Gramma Tala: Can you hear the call of the sea?

Moana: Yes, I hear it calling me…

Gramma Tala: I like to dance with the water, the undertow and the waves. The water is mischievous, ha!

Moana: I like how it misbehaves!

Gramma Tala: The village may think I'm crazy, or say that I drift too far. But once you know what you like, well,

Both: there you are.

Chief Tui: The village believes in us!

Villagers: That's right!

Moana, Sina, Chief Tui: The village believes!

All: The island gives us what we need!

Chief Tui: And no one leaves…

Moana: So here I'll stay, my home, my people beside me.

All: And when we think of tomorrow, there we are.

Moana: I'll lead the way. I'll have my people to guide me. We'll build our future together. … 'cause ev'ry path leads back to... you can find happiness right… where you are!

All: We'll build our future together where we are.

Sina, Chief Tui: 'Cause ev'ry path leads you back to where you are!

Villagers: Where you are,

All: Where you are!

How Far I'll Go

Moana: I've been staring at the edge of the water long as I can remember, never really knowing why. I wish I could be the perfect daughter, but I come back to the water no matter how hard I try. Ev'ry turn I take, ev'ry trail I track, ev'ry path I make, ev'ry road leads back to the place I know, where I cannot go, where I long to be… See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me. And no one knows how far it goes. If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, one day I'll know. If I can go, There's just no telling how far I'll go.... I know ev'rybody on this island seems so happy on this island. Ev'rything is by design. I know ev'rybody on this island has a role on this island, so maybe I can roll with mine. I can lead with pride, I can make us strong. I'll be satisfied if I play along, but the voice inside sings a different song. What is wrong with me?

Moana, Pua, Hei Hei: See the light as it shines on the sea?

Hei Hei: it's blinding.

Pua, Hei Hei: But no one knows how deep it goes!

Moana: And it seems like it's calling out to me, so come and find me, and let me know…

Pua: What's beyond the line?

Pua Hei Hei: Will I cross that line?

Moana, Pua, Hei Hei, Ocean Ensemble: The line where the sky meets the sea,

Moana: It calls me!

All: And no one knows how far it goes!

Moana: If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me,

All: One day I'll know how far I'll go!

We Know The Way

Chief Ancestor 1: Tatuo o tagata folau Vala'auina e le atua o le sami telee omai.

Tah-toh oh tah-ngah-tah foh-lah-oo vah-lah-ah-oo-ee-nah eh leh ah-too-ah oh leh sah-me teh-leh eh oh mah-ee

Chief Ancestor 2: La ava'e le lu'itau e le lei. oo-ah ah-vah-eh leh loo-ee-tah-oo eh leh-leh-ee

Chief Ancestors 1, 2: Tapenapena! tah-peh-nah-peh-nah

Chief ancestor 3: We read the wind and the sky when the sun is high. We sail the length of the seas on the ocean breeze. At night we name every star, we know where we are. Chief Ancestors: We know who we are, who we are...

All Ancestors: Away, away! We set a course to find a brand new island ev'rywhere we roam. Away, away! We keep our island in our mind. And when it's time to find home, we know the way!

Group 2: Away, away!

Group 1: We are explorers, reading ev'ry sign. We tell the stories of our elders in a never ending change.

Group 2: Aue! Aue! ah-oo-eh ah-oo-eh

All: Te fen-u-a te malie, Nae ko hakilia teh feh-noo-ah teh mah-lee-eh nah-eh koh ha-kee-lee-ah kah ee-ngah eh We know the way!

We Know The Way Playoff

Chief Ancestors: We are explorers, reading ev'ry sign. We tell the stories of our elders in a never ending chain.

Where You Are Reprise

Grandma Tala: You are your father's daughter, stubbornness and pride. Mind what he says, but remember: you may hear a voice inside. And if the voice starts to whisper to follow the farthest star, Moana, that voice inside is who you are.

How Far I'll go Reprise

Moana: She showed me day after day how to find my way. She taught me how to rely on the wind and sky. She named me after the sea. She believed in me. I know we used to be bold, from the tells she told. I know she left me prepared, from the things she shared. There was more she wanted to see…

Chief Ancestors: Iei ki na... Iei ki na... Yeh-ee kee nah Yeh-ee kee nah

Moana: There's a line where the sky meets the sea and it calls me! But no one knows how far it goes. All the time wond'ring where I need to be is behind me. I'm on my own, to worlds unknown!

Moana, Ocean Ensemble: Ev'ry turn I take, every trail I track, is a choice I make, now I can't turn back from the great unknown, where I go alone, where I long to be…

Moana, Ocean Ensemble: See her light up the night in the sea, she calls me.

Gramma Tala, Ancestors: She calls! Ah manatu a tu! Mah-nah-too ah-too

Moana Ocean Ensemble: And yes, I know that I can go. There's a moon in the sky and the wind is behind me. And soon. I'll know

All: how far I'll go!

You're Welcome

Maui: Okay, okay. I see what's happening. Yeah. You're face to face with greatness and it's strange. You don't even know how you feel; it's adorable. Well, it's nice to see that humans never change. Open your eyes, let's begin. Yes, it's really me, it's Maui, breathe it in. I know it's a lot: the hair, the bod, when you're staring at a demigod. What can I say? Except "you're welcome"? For the tides, the sun, the sky? Hey, it's okay, it's okay; you're welcome. I'm just an ordinary demiguy.

Maui Ensemble: Hey, what has two thumbs and pulled up the sky when you were waddling yea high?

Maui: This guy.

Maui Ensemble: When the nights got cold, who stole you fire from down below?

Maui: You're looking at him, yo. Oh, also I lassoed the sun

Maui Ensemble: "You're welcome!"

Maui: to stretch your days and bring you fun. Also I harnessed the breeze

Maui Ensemble: "You're welcome!"

Maui: to fill your sails and shake your trees.

Maui Ensemble: So what can we say except "you're welcome"?

Maui: For the islands I pulled from the sea.

Maui Ensemble: There's no need to pray, it's okay, you're welcome.

Maui: Huh! I guess it's just my way of being me!

Maui, Maui Ensemble: You're welcome! your welcome!

Maui: Well, come to think of it… kid, honestly, I could go on and on. I could explain ev'ry nat'ral phenomenon.

Solo 1: The tide?

Solo 2: The grass?

Solo 3: The ground?

Solo 4: Oh, that was Maui just messing around.

Solo 5: He killed an eel.

Solo 6: He buried it's guts.

Solo 7: Sprouted a tree...

Solo 8: Now you got coconuts!

Group 1: What's the lesson? What is the take away?

Group 2: Don't mess with Maui when he's on a breakaway!

Maui: I can't count all the things that I've done, the places I've seen, the battles I've won! Look where I've been, I make ev'rything happen! Look at that mean mini Maui just tickety tappin'!

Maui Ensemble: Heh heh heh

Maui, Maui Ensemble: heh heh heh hey!

Maui, Group 1: Well, anyway, let me say "you're welcome!"

Group 2: You're welcome! Ha! Ha! Ha! You're welcome!

Maui and Group 1: for the wonderful world you know. Hey it's OK, it's OK, you're welcome.

Maui: Well, come to think of it, I gotta go.

Maui: Hey, it's your day to say "you're welcome! 'Cause I'm gonna need that boat. I'm sailing away, away, you're welcome. 'Cause Maui can do anything but float! You're welcome! You're welcome! And thank you!

Group 1: Hey, it's your day to say "you're welcome! 'Cause he's gonna need that boat. He'll sailing away, away, you're welcome. 'Cause Maui can do anything but float! You're welcome! You're welcome!

Group 2: Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! You're welcome! Ha! Ha! Ha! You're welcome! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! You're welcome! Ha! Ha! Ha! You're welcome! You're welcome!

Warrior Face Part 1

Maui: We've got a job to do. We need to survive. You're afraid? Good. That means you're alive. No matter what we face, we run the show. It's time to use your face to let 'em know.

Warrior Face part 2

Maui: Now take your fear, pain, joy, rage, mix 'em up together into something that the world still hasn't seen.

Moana: What do you mean?

Maui: Warrior face. Huh! Show 'em? You mean bus'ness with your warrior face; put 'em all in line. When you face challenges and dangers, you fix your face-to-face the world. Prepare your face-to-face the world.

Warrior Face part 3

Gate monster: Grrrrrrr!

Maui: GRRRRR!

Maui: It doesn't matter how you feel inside. Don't reveal inside, you keep it real inside.

Moana: Huh!

Maui: You make a face that makes 'em terrified. You make 'em scared inside, your teeth are bared alright…

Moana: Hah! We're getting out of here alive.

Maui: You're going to help us to survive!

Moana: I'm gonna help us

Monsters: A Warrior all along.

Shiny Part 1

Tomatoa: Well, Tomatoa hasn't always been this glam. I was a drab little crab once. Now I know I can be happy as a clam, because I'm beautiful, baby. Did your Granny say, "Listen to your heart. Be who you are on the inside"? I need three words to tear her argument apart: Your granny lied. I'd rather be

Tomatoa and Claws: shiny!

Tomatoa: Like a treasure from a sunken pirate wreck. Scrub the deck and make it look Tomatoa and Claws: shiny!

Tomatoa: I will sparkle like a wealthy woman's neck.

Left Claw: Just a sec, don't-cha know: Fish are dumb dumb dumb, they chase anything that glitters.

Tamatoa: Beginner's, oh…

Right Claw: And here they come come come, to the brightest thing that glitters.

Tamatoa: Mmmm fish dinners... I just love free food…

Tomatoa and Claws: And you look like seafood….

Shiny Part 2

Tomatoa: Well, well, well. Little Maui's having trouble with his look.

Left Claw: Yeah little semi-demi-mini-god!

Right Claw: Ouch. What a terrible performance.

Tomatoa: Get the hook! (Get it?)

Claws: You don't swing it like you used to, man...

Tomatoa: Yet I have to give you credit from the start, for getting here from the outside. But can't you see, I made myself a work of art. I'll never hide. I can't. I'm too

Tomatoa, Claws, Shiny Ensemble: Shiny!

Tomatoa: Watch me dazzle like a diamond in the rough. Strut my stuff, my stuff is so Everyone: Shiny!

Tomatoa: Send your armies, but they'll never be enough! My shell's too tough, Maui, man.

Everyone: You should try try try but you can't expect a demigod to beat a decapod.

Tomatoa: Look it up.

Claws, Shiny Ensemble: You will die die die.

Tomatoa: Now it's time for me to take apart your achin' heart.

All: Far from the ones who abandoned you, chasing the love of these humans who made you feel wanted.

Tomatoa: You try to be tough,

All: but your armor's just not hard enough. Maui, now it's time to kick your heinie! Tomatoa: Ever seen someone so

All: Shiny?!

Tomatoa: Soak it in, 'cuz it's the last you'll ever see. C'est la vie, mon ami, I'm so

All: Shiny....

Tomatoa: Now I eat you so prepare your final plea, just for me.

All: You'll never be as shiny. You wish you were nice n' shiny!

Shiny Playoff

Tomatoa, Claws: Shiny! I'm the sunrise on the surface of the sea. Look at me, ya see, I'm so shiny! All the monsters see my weaponry and flee.

Tomatoa: C'est la vie. Call me selfish…

Tomatoa, Claws: Call me shellfish….

Tomatoa: Wait a minute!

Song of the Ancestors

Chief Ancestors: Iei ki na....Iei ki na... ye-hee kee nah ye-hee kee nah

Gramma Tala: I know a girl from an island. She stands apart from the crowd. She loves the sea and her people. She makes her whole family proud.

Chief Ancestor 1: Sometimes the world seems against you.

Chief Ancestor 3: The journey may leave a scar.

Chief Ancestor 2: But scars can heal and reveal just where you are….

Grandma Tala: The people you love will change you.

Chief Ancestor 1: The things you have learned will guide you.

Chief Ancestor 2: And nothing on earth can silence the quiet voice still inside you.

Grandma Tala: And when that voice starts to whisper,

All Four: "Moana, you've come so far."

Grandma Tala: Moana, listen…. Do you know who you are?

Moana: Who am I? I am a girl who loves my island, and the girl who loves the sea. It calls me. I am the daughter of the village chief. We are descended from voyagers who found their way across the world. They call me.

Grandma Tala, Chief Ancestors: You've delivered us to where we are.

+Some Ancestor Ensemble: You have journeyed farther.

All ancestors: You are everything you've learned and more…

Moana: Still it calls me.

All: And the call isn't out there at all, it's inside me. It's like the tide, always falling and rising. I will carry you here in my heart, you remind me that come what may, I know the way.

Moana: I am Moana!

All: (except Moana) Iei ki na! Iei ki na! Iei ki na! Ko matou tenei! ye-hee kee nah ye-hee kee nah ye-hee kee nah koh mah-toh teh neh-ee

Ocean Ensemble: Ou loto mamainatoa, oh loh-toh mah-mah-ee-nah-toh-ah

Ocean Ensemble: Manatu atu, mah-nah-too ah-too

Moana: They have stolen the heart from inside you,

Ocean Ensemble: Taku pelepele. Tah-coo peh-leh-peh-leh

Moana: but this does not define you.

Ocean Ensemble: Manatu atu. mah-nah-too ah-too

Moana: This is not who you are. You know who you are.

Te Fiti Restored

Ocean Ensemble: Ah....

Chief Ancestor 2: Before their eyes, the monster Te Ka became the goddess Te Fiti.

Ocean Ensemble: Iei ki na! Iei ki na! Iei ki na! Ko matou tenei! ye-hee kee nah ye-hee kee nah ye-hee kee nah koh mah-toh teh neh-ee

Maui, Moana: Te Fiti
